SXSW Party Info
As of March 9th 2008, this is the most expansive coverage of SXSW parties available on the Internet. But that is not to say that this information is complete, 100% accurate, or that changes will not take place. In fact, we know that information will change, especially as pertains to bands and their start times. Always check the links associated with parties, as updated information may be available.
Parties are a huge deal at SXSW and if you attend, you’ll have a hard time not finding one. We expect a lot of questions about parties from Infoseekers.

Party Search (where to search, which sites are authoratative)
|
Use the special search above to locate sxsw schedule info of all types, including party info. Party information is very dynamic and much of it is unofficial. The official sxsw site will not always have the latest info, or any info, on unofficial parties. Austin360.com, Upcoming.org, and OhMyRockness.com are sites we recommend you use for best accuracy, as they seem much more up to date in our tests. But where possible, go stratight to the source; the main page for each party is your best bet. (Note: we were recommending Sched.org, but on last check their data was lacking despite their cool interface.) |
While 6th street offers a mile of bars open to the public, at times some bars on 6th street and elsewhere are rented out and closed down for parties. When this happens it means one of two things- it’s an open event to anyone holding the appropriate SXSW badge, or it’s a private party for which you must be on a list. The former is more common and holds true for many of the SXSW event-related parties around town.
While some exclusive parties require you to be on a list, that doesn’t mean you have to be a VIP to attend. In many cases it means getting online and finding the party’s website and RSVPing to it with your name and information.
While the main focus of SXSW is on emerging technology and showcasing new and great independent music and film, there is just as heavy an emphasis on the after-hours events in Austin.
